Why they asked for our help
As a company solving mission-critical identity challenges for their customers, it was crucial for Fourthline to maintain a clear, efficient allocation of R&D capacity. Over time, they faced increasing difficulty in making accurate estimations for initiatives — especially with complex projects — leading to inefficiencies and uncertainty around delivery timelines.
Incorporating uncertainty and risk into estimates in a pragmatic way proved challenging, making it hard for teams to have clarity on their estimated investment and impact. At the same time, keeping strategy visible and aligned across multiple teams became harder as the organisation grew. Uncertainty about team capacity and the complexity of coordinating large, cross-functional initiatives made it difficult to plan and execute their roadmap effectively.
How we approached it
Scaleflow provided Fourthline with the Scaleflow Platform as the central hub where they could plan, implement, and track the ROI of their product strategy, roadmaps, and capacity. This gave all teams a single source of truth — visible and accessible at all times.
To address prioritisation challenges, Scaleflow ran two targeted workshops. The first was a three-hour session with leadership to build a Product Investment Strategy focused on prioritising initiatives based on ROI, risk, and strategic impact. This was followed by a session for product teams that introduced ROI-based prioritisation, helping them create business cases for roadmap items and fostering alignment across departments. Alongside the platform and workshops, Scaleflow maintained a direct, continuous collaboration channel with Ralph, the Group PMs, and Product Managers — supporting their people with anything they needed, inside and even outside of the platform.
Turning R&D complexity into strategic clarity
With Scaleflow in place, Fourthline's strategy became visible to all teams, all the time — facilitating collaboration between product teams and commercial counterparts from the start, preventing wasted efforts and misalignment. Initiative estimations improved significantly, with tools to factor in risks, uncertainties, and capacity constraints, allowing the team to make smarter decisions and set more realistic expectations for project timelines.
Predictability improved drastically — something crucial in Fourthline's compliance-driven environment. Scaleflow provided weekly, if not daily, updates on progress, uncertainties, and changes, ensuring the team could adapt as needed without sacrificing long-term goals. Even with large initiatives involving multiple teams, Fourthline could now coordinate efforts across the organisation while keeping internal stakeholders and commercial counterparts aligned on both goals and execution.
